Texas Psychological Association is pleased to announce its 2013 Annual Convention Call for Proposals. TPA’s President, Dr. Ray H. Brown and TPA’s Program Committee, chaired by Dr. Betty Clark, encourage proposals for convention workshops, symposia, research papers, and posters from individuals in all settings representing psychology in Texas. The Program Committee especially welcomes program submissions relating to the convention's theme "Honoring our Traditions...Expanding our Horizons." Our goal is to provide another high quality continuing education experience with a mix of traditional topics and speakers but also expanding our focus with speakers who working in less traditional settings. The proposal submission receipt deadline is 5:00pm, Thursday, April 18.
Types of Programs
Convention Workshops are programs based on teaching direct skills and practical application of theory to workshop participants. Workshops combine theoretical and experimental approaches to help participants increase their understanding and skills in a particular area of current interest in psychology. (2, 3, 6 hours) Each person listed as a presenter must register for the Convention. (CE eligible)
Symposia are focused panel discussions in which participants present their views about a common topic or theme. The format of a symposium usually contains an introduction to the topic background by the chairperson to facilitate the ensuing discussion. Participants then present their viewpoints, followed by interchange among participants and between the audience and participants. Often the symposium will end with an overview of the proceedings by the chairperson. Most importantly, a symposium is not simply a paper-reading session. (1.5 hour) Each person listed as a presenter/chair must register for the Convention. (CE eligible)
Research Papers are reports of empirical studies presented by the primary researcher. All research must be complete upon submission for consideration. Two or three Research Papers will be grouped together by the Program Committee into a 1-hour time period. Each person listed as a presenter must register for the Convention. (CE elibible)
Posters are in a format that allows for extended discussion of the presentation with the author. They use illustrative materials placed on a poster (maximum 4' x 4') with tables, graphs, and data. The text of the summary submitted should include a statement of the problem, subjects used, procedure, results, and conclusions. While TPA will supply poster board to which you can tack your materials, authors must provide their own illustrative materials and tacks. Please do not exceed 4' x 4' dimensions. Since space is limited, NO exceptions will be made. Each person listed as a presenter must register for the Convention. Please make note on your call for papers form who will be the presenter of the poster.
Meetings are reserved for TPA Divisions, Special Interest Groups and Committees. (1 or 1.5 hours)
In order to ensure a balanced program, no speaker may be on more than 2 proposals.
All presenters are considered attendees and will be expected to pay their own travel expenses and the convention registration fee unless otherwise noted directly to presenter. If you or a potential co-presenter cannot commit to payment of the registration fee, please do not submit a proposal.
You must confirm your co-presenters'/authors' agreement to register before listing their names on the submission. DO NOT list individuals unless you have a definite commitment they they will appear with you and present at the convention. The ONLY exception is co-authors of research listed for posters or research paper sessions who are to be listed ONLY as authors and will not present with you.
