Action Alert! LPA Bill Action Needed

Executive Director David White and President Dr. Carol Grothues worked tirelessly this week to negotiate with representatives of the Texas Association of Psychological Associates (TAPA) on the "LPA Bill" (SB 1339). This bill would give LPAs full, independent psychological practice, which TPA is strongly opposed to without proof of competency in certain areas. TAPA representatives did not agree.

TPA is unwavering in its position that the doctoral degree is the entry level into the practice of psychology.

SB 1339 will be heard before the Senate Business & Commerce Committee on Tuesday, April 11th.

ACTION REQUEST

It's imperative that psychologists contact Senators on the Business & Commerce Committee before Tuesday's public hearing. Please take ten minutes, call the committee members' offices, and ask them to NOT SUPPORT SB 1339.

Example: "I am a licensed psychologist and I am calling to ask Senator {insert Senator's name} to NOT SUPPORT SB 1339. As a doctoral-level mental health professional, I believe it is in the best interest and safety of Texas citizens that the doctoral degree remains the entry level to the profession of psychology."

Call Senate Committee members before Monday, April 10th at 5:00 p.m.
